Beautiful batiks

Believed to originate as long as 1,500 years ago, Batik is the traditional fabric art of Indonesia and the Middle East. Designs on the fabric are produced using a 'resist' process, where the fabric artist uses wax to prevent dye from penetrating the cloth, leaving undyed areas in the dyed fabric.  This process of wax resist then dye, is repeated over and over to create complex multicoloured designs.  Fabrics are densely woven to allow intricate designs to be laid down.

Fabrics can be equally stunning in their vibrance, or in subtly understated shades.  I love working with colour, combining Batiks in my quilts.
